Terms of Service — Memrina

1. Introduction

These terms of service ("the Terms") govern your use of the Memrina mobile application ("the Service"), provided by Afeo Systems AB ("we", "us", "our"), a Swedish registered company.

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree to the Terms, you should not use the Service.

2. Service description

Memrina is an AI-powered homework help app for children aged 8–15. The Service offers:

  • OCR scanning: Photograph homework to extract text
  • AI-based tutoring: Interactive study questions generated from homework content
  • Progress tracking: Overview of the child's study results
  • Text-to-speech: AI responses can be listened to
  • Parent overview: Management of children, homework, and study data

The Service is intended as a supplement to regular education, not a replacement.

3. Account responsibility

3.1 Parent account

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
  • You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You may only create accounts for your own children (or children you are the legal guardian of).

3.2 Child access

  • Children access the Service via a PIN code that you create.
  • You are responsible for supervising your child's use of the Service.
  • Children should use the Service under your supervision.

3.3 Account security

If you suspect unauthorized access to your account, contact us immediately at support@memrina.se.

4. Acceptable use

You agree to:

  • Use the Service solely for educational purposes
  • Not upload offensive, illegal, or inappropriate content
  • Not attempt to manipulate the AI system for purposes other than education
  • Not use the Service to circumvent school rules about cheating
  • Not share your account with other people
  • Not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems
  • Not copy, modify, or distribute the Service

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

5. Subscriptions and payment

5.1 Subscription plans

Memrina offers various subscription plans that may include:

  • Free trial: New users may receive access to a free trial period
  • Monthly subscription: Recurring monthly payment
  • Annual subscription: Payment for a full year at a discount

Current prices and plans are displayed in the app and in the App Store.

5.2 Apple In-App Purchases

All payments are handled through Apple's App Store and their in-app purchase system. By subscribing, you also agree to Apple's terms of purchase.

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID
  • The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it
  • You can cancel your subscription via App Store settings
  • No refund is given for the current subscription period

5.3 Price changes

We may change subscription prices. You will be notified in advance, and changes take effect at the next renewal period.

6. AI-generated content

6.1 Disclaimer

Memrina uses artificial intelligence (AI) to generate study questions and educational responses. It is important to understand that:

  • AI-generated content is intended as guidance for learning, not as guaranteed accurate information
  • Responses may contain inaccuracies or be incomplete
  • The Service does not replace professional education, teachers, or tutors
  • Parents should be aware that AI responses may vary in quality

6.2 No liability for AI content

We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of AI-generated content. You use AI-generated content at your own risk.

7. Intellectual property

7.1 Our property

Memrina, including but not limited to its design, code, AI models, trademarks, and functionality, belongs to Afeo Systems AB and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights.

7.2 Your content

You retain all rights to content you upload (for example, homework photos). By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to use this content solely for the purpose of providing the Service (e.g., OCR processing and generating study questions).

This license terminates when you delete the content or your account.

8. Privacy and data protection

Our handling of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you confirm that you have read and understood the privacy policy.

9. Limitation of liability

9.1 Service provided "as is"

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

9.2 Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Afeo Systems AB is not liable for:

  • Indirect, consequential, or special damages
  • Loss of data (beyond what follows from our privacy policy)
  • Lost study results or academic consequences
  • Service interruptions
  • Inaccuracies in AI-generated content

Our total liability is limited to the amount you have paid for the Service during the preceding 12 months.

9.3 Exceptions

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Swedish law, including liability for intent or gross negligence.

10. Changes to the Service

We reserve the right to:

  • Update, modify, or discontinue features
  • Perform maintenance that may affect availability
  • Change or discontinue the Service with reasonable notice

We strive to inform users of material changes in advance.

11. Termination

11.1 By you

You may terminate your account at any time via the app (Settings → Data & Privacy → Delete Account). Upon deletion:

  • All personal data is permanently deleted
  • Active subscriptions must be cancelled separately via the App Store
  • Deletion cannot be undone

11.2 By us

We may suspend or terminate your account if you:

  • Violate these Terms
  • Use the Service in a way that could harm other users
  • Fail to pay for the subscription

If we suspend your account, we will notify you and give you an opportunity to export your data before deletion, where possible.

12. Dispute resolution

12.1 Governing law

These Terms are governed by and interpreted in accordance with Swedish law.

12.2 Disputes

Disputes arising in connection with these Terms shall primarily be resolved through negotiation. If the parties cannot reach an agreement, the dispute shall be decided by a Swedish court.

12.3 Consumer protection

If you are a consumer, your rights under mandatory consumer protection legislation are not affected by these Terms. You always have the right to contact the Swedish National Board for Consumer Disputes (ARN) or the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform (ODR): ec.europa.eu/odr.

13. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms. For material changes, we will notify you via:

  • In-app notification
  • Email to the registered email address

Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you should stop using the Service and delete your account.

14. Miscellaneous

  • Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions is not affected.
  • Entire agreement: These Terms, together with the privacy policy, constitute the complete agreement between you and us.
  • Assignment: We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms to a third party. You may not assign your rights without our written consent.
  • Force majeure: We are not liable for delays or failures in performance caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
